What is a Lasting Power of Attorney
A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a legal document that gives someone you trust — known as your Attorney — the authority to make decisions on your behalf if you are ever unable to do so yourself. This could be due to illness, an accident, or the onset of dementia or other cognitive decline.
Without an LPA in place, even your closest family members have no legal right to manage your finances, access your bank account, or make decisions about your care. The process to gain this authority through the Court of Protection is lengthy, costly, and deeply stressful. Setting up an LPA now — while you have mental capacity to do so — avoids all of that.
At Langham Wills, our advisers guide you through the entire process step by step, handling the forms, checking everything is correct, and coordinating registration with the Office of the Public Guardian — so you don't have to worry about costly mistakes or delays.
